Director of Operations

About the role
The Director of Operations will lead day‑to‑day performance of The Malawi Scholarship Programme, ensuring efficient delivery of scholarships and related services. Based on‑site in Mbabzi, the role can be part‑time or full‑time and reports directly to senior leadership.
Key responsibilities
- Oversee core functions including programme delivery, internal processes, budgeting, resource allocation, reporting and compliance.
- Design, refine and monitor operational workflows and performance metrics.
- Implement continuous improvements to enhance efficiency and service quality for scholars, partners and stakeholders.
- Manage and develop a multidisciplinary team, setting clear goals, providing feedback and fostering an inclusive culture.
- Collaborate with leadership on strategic planning and prepare operational and financial reports.
- Support fundraising and donor stewardship with accurate data and act as primary contact for partners and service providers.
Required profile
- Minimum 7 years leadership experience in an NGO, education, international development or social impact organisation.
- Proven experience managing multi‑disciplinary teams.
- Strong programme management and operational leadership background.
- Experience working with international donors, grant‑funded programmes or development partners.
- Robust financial management and budgeting capabilities.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to build systems, processes and organisational capacity.
- Strong problem‑solving and decision‑making abilities.
- Commitment to community‑led development and educational opportunity.
