Clinical Legal Studies Coordinator (Assistant Lecturer/Lecturer/Senior Lecturer)

About the role

The University of Malawi invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for the post of Assistant Lecturer/Lecturer/Senior Lecturer and Clinical Legal Studies Coordinator in the Public Law and Clinical Legal Education Department, School of Law, Economics and Government. The successful candidate will coordinate the work of the sub-clinics under the Chancellor College Legal Clinic and teach and research in Clinical Legal Education.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate the work of the sub-clinics under the Chancellor College Legal Clinic.
• Teach and conduct research in Clinical Legal Education and other practical courses assigned by the Head of Department.
• Assist supervisors in clinic activities such as student training, outreach and client meetings.
• Assist Lecturers in teaching and research.
• Take over the clinic's work when a supervisor is out of station.
• Report to the Head of Department on the progress of each clinic.
• Take clinical cases to court and litigate as necessary.
• Mobilize resources for the legal clinic.
• Carry out other duties assigned by the Principal, Registrar or Dean of the Faculty through the Head of Department.

Required profile

• Holder of an LLB (Hons) with Second Upper Class (2.1).
• Valid licence to practice law in the courts of Malawi.
• Experience in drafting proposals and implementing projects.
• A Master's or PhD in Law (with credits in the first degree) is an added advantage.
• Willingness to reside in Zomba.
