Child Protection Officer – Fixed Term (Lilongwe, Malawi)

About the role

UNICEF is looking for a dynamic Child Protection Officer to join its team in Lilongwe on a fixed‑term basis. You will support the design, implementation and monitoring of high‑impact child protection programmes that safeguard the rights and well‑being of the most vulnerable children in Malawi.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical assistance to government, civil‑society and development partners for child protection system strengthening.
• Support programme design, implementation, monitoring, reporting and evidence generation.
• Contribute to the development and revision of legal frameworks, policies and guidelines that protect children from violence, exploitation and harmful practices.
• Facilitate coordination among internal and external stakeholders to mobilise resources and ensure programme quality.
• Assist in knowledge management, capacity‑building activities and advocacy initiatives.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Law, International Development, Psychology, Sociology, Human Rights, Social Science or a related field.
• Demonstrated commitment to child rights and experience working in protection, humanitarian or development contexts.
• Strong analytical, reporting and communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with government officials, NGOs and international partners.
