Accountant (Management Accounts)

About the role

The University of Malawi is recruiting one Accountant (Management Accounts) to prepare and consolidate management and project accounts, monitor grant-related expenditure and support financial reporting and audits.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and consolidate management and project accounts and financial statements, and coordinate, monitor and produce them.
• Approve journal vouchers and carry out reconciliations.
• Monitor expenditure so that it stays within approved budgets, projects and grants, and track grant periods and phase-out requirements.
• Review and consolidate financial reports according to internal and donor requirements, and generate financial analysis for management decisions.
• Ensure payments comply with requirements and facilitate audits by providing accurate information and implementing audit recommendations.
• Analyse expenditures to identify budget variances and problems with line managers, and help with budget preparation and expenditure reporting.
• Produce cash flow projections and manage the accounting information system, fixed assets register and evaluations.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional qualification in accounting or a related field.
• 6 years of relevant work experience.
