Underwriting Technician – Insurance Operations

About the role

The Underwriting Technician will support the Underwriting Supervisor in managing policy administration, premium booking and compliance activities for Libertas General Insurance. Based at the Blantyre head office, the role ensures timely issuance of quotations, endorsements and renewal reviews while maintaining strong relationships with brokers and clients.

Key responsibilities

• Book premiums, prepare invoices and issue policy documents within defined timeframes.
• Prepare quotations, endorsements and renewal review quotations (at least 60 days before renewal).
• Issue insurance certificates and cover notes as required.
• Manage regulatory compliance tasks such as KYC, premium directives and credit reference checks.
• Obtain and analyse customer credit data and conduct pre‑loss risk surveys.
• Support fast‑track claims processing by providing underwriting details within 48 hours.
• Arrange facultative reinsurance placements and prepare signing slips.
• Maintain corporate business accounts and refer complex issues to senior staff.
• Respond to broker, client and agent enquiries, maintaining strong relationships.
• Prepare weekly and monthly underwriting reports and keep accurate records.
• Perform any additional duties assigned by supervisors to support business continuity.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years experience in general insurance underwriting or reinsurance operations.
• Bachelor’s degree in Insurance and Risk Management, Mathematics, Actuarial Science or a Diploma in Insurance (CII) or progress towards ACI.
• Strong communication, analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
• Attention to detail and awareness of regulatory requirements.
