About the role
The Technical Support Assistant will ensure the reliable operation of renewable energy, electrical, and agricultural equipment across project sites in Malawi. You will install, maintain, and troubleshoot solar power systems, generators, irrigation pumps, and agro‑processing machinery while providing hands‑on training to local staff.
Key responsibilities
- Perform electrical installation, wiring, testing, and routine maintenance.
- Install, repair, and maintain solar panels, inverters, batteries, and charge controllers.
- Conduct preventive maintenance and repairs on generators.
- Support installation, operation, and upkeep of solar‑powered irrigation pumps and design irrigation systems.
- Troubleshoot solar dryers, groundnut shelling machines, and other agro‑processing equipment.
- Maintain service records, inventory logs, and technical reports.
- Train local staff on safe use and maintenance of all equipment.
- Provide technical support during field installations, commissioning, and upgrades.
Required profile
- Diploma, technical certificate or equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, Electronics or related field.
- 2‑3 years of experience in electrical installations, solar energy system installation, and generator maintenance.
- Hands‑on experience with agricultural processing equipment such as solar dryers and groundnut shelling machines.
