Technical Assistant – Digital Health

About the role

The Technical Assistant will support Malawi's Ministry of Health in strengthening coordination of digital health tools and updating digital health instruments to align with national health priorities. The position reports jointly to the Ministry’s Digital Health Division and Last Mile Health.

Key responsibilities

• Review the outgoing Digital Health strategy, document lessons learned and identify emerging technical priorities.
• Draft and update the national Digital Health Framework, SOPs and oversight guidelines to ensure policy alignment.
• Engage stakeholders across ministries, technical working groups and donor organisations to identify and prioritize digital health initiatives.
• Coordinate task forces for the development of strategic digital health documents and facilitate dissemination of policies and guidelines.
• Support the transition of the integrated Community Health Information System (iCHIS) from CHSS to the Digital Health Division and attend quarterly Data and Digital Health TWG meetings.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Public Health, Health Informatics, Data Science or related field; Master’s preferred.
• Experience developing digital health strategic documents in low‑ and middle‑income country settings.
• Knowledge of health information systems, data governance, data sharing agreements and privacy/security requirements.
• Proven ability to facilitate consensus among government ministries, technical groups and donors.

Required skills

• Familiarity with DHIS2, OpenMRS, CommCare, ODK and iCHIS.
• Understanding of data governance, privacy and security standards for health information.
