Technical Advisor I – Market-Oriented Extension

About the role

The Technical Advisor I – Market-Oriented Extension will provide expert guidance to strengthen producer organisations and promote inclusive, sustainable, market‑driven agriculture. Working with country programme teams, the Advisor will ensure that extension services are aligned with value‑chain, climate‑smart, gender‑responsive and youth‑inclusive approaches.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement strategies, standards, tools and best practices for market‑oriented extension systems.
• Provide technical assistance to country teams and partners on demand‑driven extension models, farmer advisory services and market integration.
• Contribute to proposal design, including concept notes and full proposals that embed commercialization pathways and private‑sector engagement.
• Strengthen capacity of extension staff, partners and producer organisations through curricula, workshops and coaching on good agricultural practices, business skills and market systems.
• Deliver technical solutions to improve farmer productivity, adoption of climate‑smart technologies and extension delivery mechanisms such as lead‑farmer and digital models.
• Collect, analyse and use agricultural and market data to inform services, track performance and document lessons learned.
• Build and maintain strategic partnerships with government extension services, private sector, research institutions and development partners.
• Ensure quality assurance, compliance with MEAL frameworks and timely delivery of technical outputs.

Required profile

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
• Experience with web‑conferencing applications and information/budget management systems.
• Demonstrated experience in project design and proposal development.
• Knowledge of capacity‑strengthening best practices and programme monitoring, evaluation and analysis.
• Strong relationship‑management abilities.
