Linguist/Transcriber – Chichewa/Nyanja (Remote)

About the role

We are seeking native‑level speakers of Chichewa/Nyanja to join our global pool of linguists. As a remote contractor you will work on real audio recordings, creating verbatim transcripts and translating them into natural English to support large‑scale speech‑to‑text and translation projects.

Key responsibilities

• Produce accurate verbatim transcripts from audio, capturing noises, cross‑talk and other non‑verbal cues.
• Translate transcribed content into fluent English while preserving meaning, tone and cultural nuance.
• Perform quality reviews of transcripts or translations, correcting errors and providing feedback on linguistic issues.
• Optionally handle both transcription and translation within the same workflow when required.

Required profile

• Native‑level proficiency in Chichewa and/or Nyanja.
• Graduate qualification in translation, linguistics, language studies, or a different field combined with at least 2 years of professional translation experience (or 5 years without a degree).
• Prior experience with spoken‑language transcription is a strong advantage.
