Land Surveyor – Highway Construction

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Land Surveyor to support a 30‑km highway maintenance and bitumen upgrade project in Malawi. The role involves setting‑out, alignment, and level control for road works and collaborating closely with the Roads Authority and supervising engineers.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out setting‑out, alignment and level control for subgrade, pavement, culverts, guardrails and ancillary works.
• Re‑check survey benchmarks, conduct cross‑section surveys and calculate earthwork volumes for interim payment measurements.
• Measure haulage distances, prepare survey documentation for variation orders and contractual claims.
• Maintain RTK, total station and other survey instruments; compile daily records, measurement data and as‑built drawings.
• Submit inspection documents, perform sectional acceptance surveys and re‑survey during the defects notification period.

Required profile

• Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Surveying, Civil Engineering or a related field.
• Valid professional surveyor certificate with at least 3 years of highway construction experience.
• Ability to read English engineering drawings and communicate technically in English.
• Willingness to work long‑term overseas, perform outdoor fieldwork and adhere to site regulations.

Required skills

• Proficiency with RTK and total station equipment.
• AutoCAD drafting skills.
• Earthwork quantity calculation.
