Instrumentation and Controls/SCADA Specialist

About the role

The specialist will design, develop and implement control system architecture and SCADA solutions for irrigation schemes, including pumping stations, reservoirs, canals and distribution networks. The role covers the full project lifecycle from concept design through installation, commissioning and operational support.

Key responsibilities

• Design control system architecture and specify instrumentation (flow, pressure, level, water quality).
• Prepare P&IDs, control philosophies, functional design specifications and I&O lists.
• Select and configure PLCs, RTUs and communication networks.
• Develop and implement SCADA systems, HMI interfaces, dashboards and alarm management.
• Integrate telemetry (GPRS/3G/4G, radio, fiber, satellite) and ensure cybersecurity and system redundancy.
• Supervise on‑site installation, conduct factory and site acceptance tests, and lead commissioning, loop checking and calibration.
• Troubleshoot system faults, optimise performance and provide technical support to operations and maintenance teams.
• Prepare technical reports, as‑built documentation and system manuals.
• Coordinate with civil, mechanical, electrical and hydraulic engineers and review contractor submissions.

Required profile

• Degree in Electrical, Electronic or Control Engineering or equivalent experience.
• Proven experience in instrumentation and control projects for water or irrigation infrastructure.
• Strong knowledge of PLC/RTU programming and SCADA development.
• Ability to work on‑site, lead multidisciplinary teams and manage project documentation.
