Funded traineeship for young graduates at the EU Delegation to Malawi

About the role

This paid traineeship offers a young graduate the chance to work for up to six months in the Political, Press & Information Section of the EU Delegation in Malawi. You will support research, analysis and communication activities that help shape the EU’s public diplomacy in the country.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct in‑depth research on current affairs, elections, government institutions, human‑rights and civil‑society issues in Malawi.
• Analyse how these issues affect the EU’s position and draft reports, fact sheets and articles.
• Prepare communication materials, including content for social‑media channels.
• Assist in organising events and interacting with Malawian authorities, NGOs and the public under supervision.
• Provide general and administrative support to the PPI section.

Required profile

• Current residence in Malawi.
• Bachelor’s degree in political science, diplomacy, international relations, peace and conflict studies or a related field.
• Strong understanding of Malawi’s politics, economics and governance.
• Less than one year of professional experience after graduation and no more than six weeks of prior EU‑institution experience.
• Fluency in English and excellent analytical and drafting abilities.
• Pro‑active, hands‑on attitude with a willingness to learn and contribute ideas.

• A monthly grant to cover living expenses.
• All travel, visa, insurance and accommodation costs are the responsibility of the trainee.
