Engineering Manager

About the role

The Engineering Manager will lead all engineering and maintenance activities for the Protea Hotel in Lilongwe. This full‑time, onsite position ensures the building, grounds, and physical plant operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee the physical plant, including HVAC, refrigeration, plumbing, water‑treatment, and electrical systems.
• Develop and manage the engineering budget, capital‑expenditure projects, and preventive‑maintenance plans.
• Ensure compliance with safety, security, and regulatory standards.
• Coordinate service contracts, supervise contractors, and monitor project timelines and costs.
• Lead emergency‑response efforts and maintain relationships with city building, zoning, and fire‑prevention authorities.
• Conduct regular inspections of guest rooms, public areas, and grounds to uphold guest satisfaction and asset protection.

Required profile

• High school diploma/GED with 3 years of engineering/maintenance experience, or an associate degree in Building & Construction, Engineering, Mechanics, etc., with 1 year experience.
• Technical training in HVAC‑R, electrical, and plumbing systems.
• Strong budgeting, project‑management, and regulatory‑compliance skills.
