Consultant – Investment Readiness and Capital Mobilization

About the role

The International Water Management Institute (IWMI) is seeking a results‑driven Consultant to lead investment‑readiness and capital‑mobilisation activities for the Water and Soil Accelerator (WASA) Agribusiness Catalyst. Working remotely from Malawi, you will help five agribusiness models become investment‑ready and attract private‑sector co‑investment to scale climate‑smart agricultural solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Produce an inception report and detailed workplan outlining methodology, investment‑readiness criteria and risk assumptions.
• Assess commercial viability of each agribusiness model and develop investor‑ready business cases, financial projections and financing structures.
• Create professional pitch materials for commercial investors, impact investors, development finance institutions and other financial partners.
• Design and deliver capacity‑building workshops on investment readiness, financial management, governance and deal negotiation.
• Identify, engage and facilitate discussions with relevant investors, financiers and capital providers to secure co‑investment.

Required profile

• Advanced degree in finance, economics, agribusiness or a related field.
• Proven experience in investment advisory, transaction support or financial structuring for agribusiness or climate‑smart projects.
• Strong understanding of inclusive financing mechanisms such as working‑capital loans, guarantees and insurance.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.

Required skills

• Financial modelling and projection development.
• Preparation of investor‑ready business cases and pitch decks.
• Capacity‑building and training delivery on investment topics.
