Child Protection Specialist

About the role

The National Child Protection Specialist provides technical leadership for ending child marriage and strengthening child protection across Malawi. Working under the Chief of Child Protection, the role oversees national and district‑level implementation of Mobile Response Teams, mass birth registration, justice pathways, and community norm change.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as the primary technical liaison with government ministries, offering strategic advice on policy development and implementation.
• Guide district‑level teams to ensure activities align with national standards, SOPs, and quality‑assurance mechanisms.
• Supervise Mobile Response Teams, monitor performance, and ensure coordinated, high‑quality case responses.
• Lead technical integration across birth registration, justice, and case‑management thematic areas.
• Design and deliver capacity‑building programmes, including training curricula, tools, and coaching.
• Maintain tracking systems for case progression, referrals, and partner commitments, and ensure timely service delivery.
• Collaborate with communications and partnership teams to maximise visibility of key milestones.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in child protection, gender‑based violence, or related humanitarian programming.
• Proven ability to work with government agencies and multi‑sectoral partners.
• Strong analytical and reporting skills, with experience producing narrative and analytical reports.
