Anesthesiologist – Pediatric Hospital

About the role

The AIC CURE Children’s Hospital in Malawi is seeking a qualified Anesthesiologist to provide anesthesia services for surgical patients and to oversee critical care areas. The role includes direct patient care, supervision of anesthesia staff, and participation in hospital-wide emergency response.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct pre‑operative anesthesia evaluations, order necessary investigations, and document findings.
• Select and administer the safest anesthetic technique (general, regional, MAC, local or combinations) and manage airway using mask ventilation, bag‑valve mask, intubation, LMA, and emergency procedures.
• Oversee fluid resuscitation, blood loss measurement, and maintain accurate intra‑operative records of vitals, medications, and fluids.
• Ensure proper functioning of anesthesia machines, oxygen supply, suction and related equipment in collaboration with biomedical staff.
• Perform regional anesthesia techniques and manage post‑operative pain control.
• Identify and treat intra‑operative and post‑operative anesthesia complications promptly.
• Supervise nurse anesthetists, anesthesia technicians, and oversee HDU/ICU patient care.
• Participate in code reviews, debriefings, and resuscitation efforts as needed.

Required profile

• Board‑certified Anesthesiologist with experience in a hospital setting.
• Preferable subspecialty expertise in pediatric anesthesia.
• Demonstrated ability to supervise anesthesia staff and manage critical care units.
• Commitment to patient safety, accurate documentation, and adherence to clinical guidelines.
