Engineering Manager

About the role

The Engineering Manager will lead all engineering and maintenance activities for the Protea Hotel by Marriott in Lilongwe. This full‑time position ensures the building, grounds and physical plant operate safely, efficiently and in compliance with all regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee the physical plant, including HVAC, refrigeration, plumbing, water‑treatment and electrical systems.
• Develop and manage the engineering budget, capital‑expenditure projects and preventive‑maintenance programmes.
• Ensure regulatory compliance, fire‑safety standards and energy‑conservation initiatives.
• Administer service contracts, supervise contractors and monitor renovation or new‑construction projects.
• Maintain grounds, guest rooms, public areas, restaurants, vehicles and recreational facilities.
• Conduct regular inspections of property and guest areas to guarantee high standards of appearance and functionality.
• Manage inventory of parts, equipment and supplies.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED with at least 3 years of engineering/maintenance experience, **or** a 2‑year degree in Building & Construction, Engineering, Mechanics or related field with at least 1 year of experience.
• Technical training in HVAC‑R, electrical systems and plumbing.
• Strong understanding of safety, regulatory and asset‑protection requirements.
