Anticipatory Action and Innovative Finance Programme Manager

About the role

The Anticipatory Action and Innovative Finance Programme Manager will support the Malawi Red Cross Society (MRCS) in designing, managing and implementing anticipatory action and innovative financing initiatives. Based in Lilongwe, the role works closely with MRCS, consortium partners and the Danish Red Cross Country Manager to protect vulnerable communities from disasters.

Key responsibilities

• Establish and maintain an effective programme management system aligned with project documents, logframes, budgets and donor requirements.
• Support the development and scaling of innovative financing solutions for disaster risk management in Malawi.
• Coordinate budget monitoring, forecasts and financial reporting together with MRCS and DRC finance teams.
• Assist MRCS in planning, revising and implementing action plans for anticipatory action initiatives.
• Oversee the implementation of the InsuResilience Flood Insurance Project in collaboration with DRC headquarters and consortium partners.
• Facilitate engagement with relevant government bodies and ensure compliance with national risk‑watch structures and data agreements.
• Contribute to national coordination mechanisms, including technical working groups and movement‑wide platforms.

Required profile

• Proven experience in programme management within humanitarian or development contexts.
• Strong understanding of disaster risk reduction, anticipatory action and innovative financing mechanisms.
• Experience working with national Red Cross societies, government agencies and multi‑partner consortia.
• Ability to manage budgets, forecasts and financial reporting in line with donor requirements.
• Excellent coordination, communication and stakeholder‑engagement skills.
