Construction Engineering Consultant – Long Term Agreement (Remote, Malawi)

About the role

UNICEF Malawi is seeking an experienced Construction Engineering Consultant on a two‑year Long Term Agreement to provide on‑demand technical support for its infrastructure programme. The role is remote and open to Malawian nationals, focusing on schools, health facilities and community institutions.

Key responsibilities

• Provide design support, technical review, validation and engineering oversight for institutional facilities.
• Evaluate proposed designs and feasibility studies submitted by implementing partners and contractors.
• Ensure all infrastructure complies with national guidelines, international best practices and UNICEF’s sustainability, safety, equity and climate‑resilience standards.
• Prepare technical monitoring reports for remote rural construction projects.
• Deliver advisory and capacity‑building services to government authorities, NGOs and other local stakeholders.

Required profile

• Advanced university degree (master’s or higher) in Civil, Hydraulic, Mechanical or Environmental Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• Demonstrated experience in infrastructure design, construction oversight and technical evaluation in low‑resource settings.
• Strong knowledge of national construction guidelines and international best practices.
• Ability to work independently and provide remote technical assistance.
