Social Safeguards Specialist

About the role
The Social Safeguards Specialist will join Sustainable Future Consulting’s Lilongwe office on a full‑time basis. The role focuses on assessing social impacts, designing and implementing safeguard plans, and ensuring compliance with national and international standards for development projects.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct social impact assessments and risk analyses for client programmes.
- Develop, implement and monitor social safeguard plans in line with regulatory frameworks.
- Liaise with government agencies, NGOs, community groups and other stakeholders to ensure inclusive consultation.
- Provide technical guidance on social risk management and conflict resolution.
- Design and deliver capacity‑building workshops for project teams and partners.
- Prepare detailed reports, data analyses and recommendations for clients.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Social Sciences, Development Studies, Sociology or a related field.
- Minimum five years of experience in community‑based assignments, social impact assessments or related development work.
- Proven experience in stakeholder engagement, community consultation and conflict resolution.
- Knowledge of regulatory compliance, social policy development and international safeguard standards.
- Previous work with development agencies, NGOs or international organisations is an asset.
