Program Manager – Field Operations (Malawi)

About the role

GiveDirectly is seeking a Program Manager to lead field operations for its flagship district transformation program in Malawi. The role combines ownership of enrollment, verification and payment delivery with mentorship of a large field team.

Key responsibilities

• Own end‑to‑end operations for enrollment, verification and cash‑payment delivery, setting and tracking quantitative targets.
• Continuously improve enrolment and follow‑up processes to enhance recipient experience.
• Coordinate with mobile‑money and telecom partners to ensure secure, timely payments and troubleshoot delays.
• Monitor security, operational and fraud risk, working with internal audit to close loopholes.
• Uphold safeguarding standards and design safe community‑engagement processes.
• Lead survey design, use data to track performance and inform decisions alongside the global Data team.
• Build and maintain program documentation and knowledge‑management materials.
• Assist HR in hiring, training and managing field staff; conduct performance reviews and develop a feedback culture.
• Develop new protocols, anticipate risks and create mitigation plans.
• Establish and maintain relationships with government, donors, telecom operators and community partners; represent GiveDirectly in coordination forums.

Required profile

• Proven success in a high‑performance environment with at least 4‑5 years of management experience, preferably managing managers.
• Exceptional leadership, communication, organizational and analytical abilities.
• Strong commitment to GiveDirectly’s mission and values.
• Ability to work independently, flag gaps and risks, and manage day‑to‑day operations while building efficient systems.
• Experience overseeing operations within a fixed budget and fluency in English.
• Experience in cash‑transfer programming, social protection or humanitarian response is a plus.
• Comfort operating in both rural and urban field settings; Master’s degree preferred.
