Nursing Practice & Quality Lead

About the role

The Nursing Practice & Quality Lead is a senior member of the Clinical Leadership Team in Neno District, reporting to the Chief Medical Officer. The role supports the implementation of Partners In Health’s mission, APZU’s strategic priorities, and Malawi’s national health policies. Working closely with nurses, midwives, the Ministry of Health, and external partners, the Lead embeds a culture of quality and safety across community, primary, and secondary care.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership on nursing and midwifery practice as a member of the clinical leadership team.
• Ensure nursing perspectives are integrated into service expansion, budgeting, staffing models, and new program design.
• Coordinate nursing and midwifery activities across APZU facilities and act as the primary liaison with the OnePIH nursing network.
• Identify gaps in care delivery, propose evidence‑based solutions, and advise district and national stakeholders on capacity building.
• Strengthen patient safety and quality‑of‑care systems, supporting operational and workforce development.
• Oversee grant‑supported activities, align partnership engagements with institutional priorities, and monitor implementation outcomes.

Required profile

• Senior nursing professional who is a member of the clinical leadership team.
• Demonstrated experience in nursing and midwifery practice improvement.
• Familiarity with Malawi’s national health policies and ability to collaborate with Ministry of Health leadership.
• Experience managing grant‑supported programs and partnership engagements.
