Engineering Manager

About the role

The Engineering Manager will lead all engineering and maintenance activities for the Protea Hotel by Marriott in Lilongwe. This full‑time, onsite position ensures the building, grounds and physical plant operate safely, efficiently and in compliance with regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee the physical plant, including HVAC‑R, refrigeration, plumbing, water‑treatment and electrical systems.
• Develop and manage the engineering budget, capital‑expenditure projects and preventive‑maintenance programmes.
• Ensure compliance with safety, security and regulatory standards, and coordinate emergency‑response procedures.
• Plan and supervise renovation or new‑construction projects, obtain bids and monitor contractor performance.
• Maintain relationships with city building, zoning and fire‑prevention authorities.
• Conduct regular inspections of guest rooms, public areas and grounds to guarantee guest satisfaction and asset protection.
• Manage inventory of parts, equipment and supplies, and oversee service contracts.

Required profile

• High school diploma/GED with 3 years of engineering‑maintenance experience, or a 2‑year degree in Building & Construction, Engineering, Mechanics or related field with 1 year experience.
• Technical training in HVAC‑R, electrical and plumbing systems.
• Strong knowledge of preventive maintenance, energy‑conservation practices and regulatory compliance.
