Energy and Environment Program Manager

About the role

Orant Charities Africa is seeking an experienced Energy and Environment Program Manager to lead sustainability initiatives across its projects in the Kasese‑Dowa region of Malawi. The role focuses on reducing the organization’s environmental footprint, promoting renewable energy, and supporting sustainable agricultural practices.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement environmental and energy strategies aligned with OCA’s sustainability goals.
• Oversee energy management programs, ensuring efficient use of energy and adoption of renewable sources.
• Monitor and analyse energy consumption, emissions, water usage and waste to identify improvement opportunities.
• Lead initiatives such as permaculture, climate‑change adaptation, water‑catchment management, reforestation, sustainable farming, solar‑power adoption and waste management.
• Ensure compliance with national and international environmental regulations.
• Build partnerships with local communities, government agencies and NGOs to promote sustainable energy and environmental projects.
• Provide training on environmental sustainability, energy efficiency and resource conservation.
• Prepare impact assessment reports and communicate sustainability achievements to stakeholders.
• Manage budgets and resources for environmental and energy projects.
• Design programs to improve community access to solar and wind energy products.

Required profile

• Proven experience in managing energy and environmental programs, preferably in the development sector.
• Strong understanding of renewable energy technologies and sustainable agriculture practices.
• Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders and communities.
• Excellent analytical and reporting skills.
