Education Specialist (P-3) – Fixed Term – Lilongwe

About the role

Under the overall leadership of the Chief Education (Adolescent Development & Participation), the Education Specialist will inspire, guide and lead a team to improve education quality for children and adolescents in Malawi. The role focuses on strategic planning, implementation, monitoring and reporting of programmes that enhance school readiness, foundational learning and alternative learning pathways.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute strategic plans to strengthen education programmes, including safe school environments for vulnerable children.
• Monitor, evaluate and report on programme impact and results.
• Engage with government, development partners and civil society to coordinate programming and mobilise resources.
• Lead policy dialogue, review and formulation, and evidence‑based advocacy.
• Support evidence generation, innovation, knowledge management and capacity‑building initiatives.

Required profile

• Master’s degree or equivalent in Education, Economics, Psychology, Sociology or related fields.
• Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in education programme management, planning, monitoring & evaluation, policy development, partnership management, capacity building or education in emergencies.

Required skills

• Technical experience in pre‑primary education.
• Technical experience in foundational literacy.
• Technical experience in alternative learning pathways for adolescents.
