Collections Administrator

About the role

Old Mutual is hiring a Collections Administrator in Lilongwe to support the administration and monitoring of its loan portfolio. The role keeps collection records accurate, reconciles repayments, monitors arrears and follows up on early-stage collections so that repayments are received, correctly allocated and followed up promptly.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain accurate records of repayments, outstanding balances, arrears and collection performance in the core banking system.
• Reconcile repayments received through payroll deductions, bank transfers, mobile money and other channels, investigate discrepancies and prepare employer payroll deduction schedules.
• Monitor expected versus actual collections and allocate payments to the correct customer accounts.
• Identify accounts at risk of missing repayments, contact customers and follow up on missed or partial payments; refer persistent cases to the Recovery Officer.
• Follow up with employer payroll and finance teams on outstanding deductions and escalate recurring issues to management.
• Prepare daily, weekly and monthly collections and arrears reports, monitor collection efficiency and first-payment defaults, and support internal and external audits.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Banking, Finance, Business Administration, Microfinance or a related field.
• At least two years of relevant experience in loan collections, credit administration, banking operations, reconciliations or microfinance.
• Experience with payroll deductions, loan repayment reconciliation or arrears monitoring is an advantage; experience with a core banking or loan management system is desirable.

Required skills

• Strong numerical and reconciliation skills and good Excel, reporting and data management skills.
• Good knowledge of loan repayment processes and arrears monitoring.
• Attention to detail, integrity, confidentiality and ability to work under pressure to meet strict deadlines.
