Child Protection Officer (Fixed-Term, Level 2)

About the role

UNICEF is looking for a dynamic Child Protection Officer to join its team in Lilongwe, Malawi. The position is a fixed‑term appointment at Level 2, reporting to the Chief Child Protection. You will support the design, implementation and monitoring of programmes that safeguard children’s rights and well‑being.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical assistance to government, civil‑society and development partners on child protection policies and programmes.
• Support the design, implementation, monitoring and reporting of child protection interventions.
• Contribute to strengthening legal frameworks and systems that prevent violence, exploitation and harmful practices.
• Facilitate coordination among internal and external stakeholders to mobilise resources and ensure programme coherence.
• Generate evidence for advocacy, knowledge management and capacity‑building activities.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Law, International Relations, Social Sciences or a related field.
• Relevant experience in child protection, humanitarian or development contexts, preferably at a mid‑level.
• Demonstrated ability to work with government counterparts, NGOs and donors.
• Strong analytical and reporting skills with a focus on equity and vulnerable populations.
