Assistant Financial Controller

About the role

Wave is expanding its finance function in Malawi and needs a proactive Assistant Financial Controller to help build a robust accounting unit. You will work from our Lilongwe office, supporting rapid growth while ensuring compliance and financial integrity.

Key responsibilities

• Represent the Finance unit to external stakeholders and review company financial transactions.
• Ensure compliance with financial, legal and regulatory requirements by interpreting legislation and advising on actions.
• Maintain accounting controls by drafting and recommending policies and procedures.
• Manage the relationship with external auditors and guarantee adherence to accounting standards.
• Oversee the Finance team: recruit, train, mentor and develop staff.
• Collaborate with Product Managers to design new products from accounting and tax perspectives.
• Lead by embodying Wave’s values and embedding them within the team.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
• Minimum of 8 years of relevant finance or accounting experience.
• Work authorization for Malawi.
• Strong organisational and proactive mindset.
