Agriculture Finance & Capacity Building Specialist

About the role

Amarante Consulting is seeking an Agriculture Finance & Capacity Building Specialist to support the implementation of a project aimed at strengthening a financial institution’s ability to deliver inclusive, sustainable, and climate‑resilient agricultural finance to smallholder farmers in Malawi. The role focuses on farmer capacity building, curriculum development, and field‑level coordination.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and validate training materials and curricula for farmers, cooperatives, and agribusinesses.
• Plan, organize, and deliver training sessions in the field.
• Support field teams and engage with local communities to ensure effective knowledge transfer.
• Track training progress, compile reports, and contribute to business planning.
• Assist with broader capacity‑building activities across the project’s five pillars.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Agriculture, Agribusiness, Economics, Finance, Development Studies or a related field.
• Strong understanding of Malawian agricultural production, farming systems, value chains and market dynamics.
• Proven experience designing and delivering training or capacity‑building programs for farmers or agribusinesses.
• Ability to assess financial viability, conduct cost‑benefit analyses and interpret market data.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work with diverse stakeholders.
• Willingness to travel extensively within Malawi and support field activities.

Required skills

• Proficiency with spreadsheets (e.g., Excel).
• Experience using presentation software (e.g., PowerPoint).
• Data analysis tools.
• Project management tools (preferred).
