Strategic Engagement Adviser – Policy, Population & Data

About the role

The Strategic Engagement Adviser will be based in the UNFPA Malawi Country Office, reporting to the Representative. The role leads the Policy, Population and Data Unit, coordinating with programmatic teams to advance UNFPA’s work on demographic change, sustainable financing and evidence‑based development planning.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the Policy, Population and Data Unit, ensuring alignment with UNFPA Strategic Plan 2026‑2029, especially Outcome 4 on adapting to demographic change.
• Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with government ministries, parliamentarians, donors, UN agencies, civil society, academia and the private sector.
• Promote the use of population dynamics and demographic intelligence in national development planning and policy formulation.
• Influence stakeholders to integrate evidence‑based, rights‑based policies and secure sustainable financing for population and SRHR investments.
• Position UNFPA as a thought leader and strategic partner on demographic change and inclusive development.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in policy analysis, demographic research, and strategic engagement with government and development partners.
• Proven ability to influence diverse stakeholders and drive results in a multi‑partner environment.
• Strong understanding of UNFPA’s mandate, the International Conference on Population and Development outcomes, and the Sustainable Development Goals.
• Excellent communication and advocacy skills, with a track record of successful partnership building.
