Research Associate – Gender Equality in Education (AGEE) Project

About the role

The University of Malawi seeks a qualified Research Associate to lead and support research activities within the Bridging Accountability for Gender Equality in Education (AGEE) project, housed in the Department of Science, Mathematics and Technology Education.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, conduct and document research activities for the AGEE project, including national and neighborhood workshops in 2025‑2026.
• Source, review and critically analyse scholarly and policy literature related to gender and education.
• Analyse qualitative and quantitative data from surveys, interviews, focus groups and curriculum materials across three countries.
• Prepare research reports, policy briefs, media pieces and academic publications as sole or joint author.
• Maintain project databases, website and support dissemination events such as seminars and stakeholder meetings.
• Collaborate with research associates in Kenya and Indonesia to review data collection, analysis and dissemination activities.

Required profile

• PhD in a relevant field.
• Good working knowledge of the Ministry of Education and the Malawi education system.
• Understanding of gender issues in education (advantage).
