Project Manager – Intake24 Malawi Project

About the role

The University of Malawi seeks a qualified Project Manager to lead the Intake24 Malawi research project within the Department of Biological Sciences and Biomedical Health. This is a 4.5‑year fixed‑term position responsible for planning, implementing and reporting on a donor‑funded grant.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain a detailed project plan, schedule and budget aligned with the grant proposal.
• Oversee financial management, track expenditures, ensure compliance with grant regulations and submit accurate financial reports.
• Establish monitoring and evaluation mechanisms, prepare narrative and financial reports for the grantor and internal stakeholders.
• Lead and mentor the project team, coordinate with work‑package leads and manage relationships with stakeholders including government agencies and community partners.
• Identify project risks, develop mitigation strategies and ensure timely resolution of issues.

Required profile

• At least 3 years of demonstrable experience managing grant‑funded projects, preferably in nutrition or health.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving and organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure.
• Self‑motivated, able to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.

Required skills

• Project management software (Microsoft Project, Asana, Trello, Jira).
• Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Financial management literacy for budgeting and expenditure tracking.
