Postdoctoral Research Assistant (PDRA) Intern – Genomics

About the role

The University of Malawi is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Assistant (PDRA) Intern to support the Genomics Laboratory within the Department of Biological Sciences. The role involves establishing and maintaining eDNA laboratory standards, operating the Illumina ISEQ sequencing platform, and providing training to students and staff.

Key responsibilities

• Set up the genomics lab according to eDNA standards and publish related protocols.
• Procure reagents and equipment and oversee day‑to‑day laboratory operations.
• Run the Illumina ISEQ platform following supplier requirements and keep its software up to date.
• Orient and train postgraduate students, academic staff, and technicians on sequencing data generation.
• Conduct research projects using the ISEQ platform for DNA sequencing data collection.
• Perform any other duties assigned by the department.

Required profile

• PhD in Molecular Biology, Genetics or a closely related field.
• Preferably post‑doctoral research experience in genomics or related disciplines.

Required skills

• Operation of Illumina ISEQ next‑generation sequencing platform.
• Implementation of eDNA laboratory protocols.
• Experience with DNA sequencing data collection and analysis.
