National Volunteer Education Specialist

About the role

The National Volunteer Education Specialist will support the Ministry of Education in Malawi to implement the BeFIT programme. Working at the district, zonal and school levels, you will help integrate tablet‑based learning into everyday teaching practices and strengthen local education systems.

Key responsibilities

• Design and deliver training sessions for District Education Officers, Primary Education Advisors, teachers and school managers.
• Develop and adapt training materials that promote effective use of tablet technology in classrooms.
• Provide on‑the‑ground mentorship and coaching to ensure sustainable adoption of digital learning tools.
• Monitor and report on programme progress, identifying challenges and proposing solutions.
• Coordinate with VSO staff, local partners and government officials to align activities with national education priorities.

Required profile

• Proven experience training and mentoring primary school teachers (both in‑service and student teachers).
• At least two years of motorcycle riding experience with a valid licence obtained within the past two years.
• Willingness to travel to remote districts and work in basic accommodation settings.
• Open‑minded, resilient and able to adapt to new situations.

Required skills

• Ability to deliver effective training and capacity‑building sessions.
• Basic ICT competence, particularly with tablet‑based learning platforms.
• Strong communication skills for interacting with educators and government officials.
