Finance Assistant – Malawi

About the role

The World University Service of Canada (WUSC) is seeking a Finance Assistant to join its Malawi office. Reporting to the Finance Manager, the role provides essential support for daily financial operations, ensuring accurate processing of transactions and reliable record‑keeping for the organization’s development programmes.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in daily financial management, including accounts payable and receivable, invoice issuance, vendor payments and recording of donations or grant income.
• Support the preparation and monitoring of the annual budget, compile data with project teams and track expenditures against donor or grant requirements.
• Process advances, reimbursements and partner disbursements, ensuring proper documentation and compliance with organisational policies.
• Liaise with vendors, banks and implementing partners to resolve payment or account issues.
• Maintain up‑to‑date financial records using the designated accounting software and assist with regular reconciliations.

Required profile

• Proficiency in English and strong attention to detail.
• Ability to work under the supervision of the Finance Manager and collaborate with project teams and external partners.
• Basic understanding of budgeting, cash management and donor reporting requirements.

What we offer

• Fixed‑term contract from 1 October 2026 to 31 March 2027 (renewable).
• Salary range of 900,000 MWK to 1,200,000 MWK per month.
