External Auditor – Malawi Value Chains Project

About the role

The Malawi Value Chains (MVC) Project, funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office, seeks an experienced External Auditor to conduct the Year 3 audit of its Income and Expenditure Statement for the period 1 April 2025 – 31 March 2026. The auditor will provide an independent opinion on donor income and project expenditures, ensuring compliance with the MoU and value‑for‑money principles.

Key responsibilities

• Perform a full‑scope audit in accordance with International Standards on Auditing (ISA), with special reference to ISA 800.
• Gather and evaluate evidence to verify the accuracy of financial reports and supporting documentation.
• Validate human‑resource related costs against budgeted positions and time‑keeping records.
• Execute agreed‑upon procedures (AUPs) for MVC and downstream partners where relevant.
• Assess implementation of previous audit recommendations and report any findings.
• Provide a factual findings report and an auditor’s opinion on conformity with the MoU and FCDO guidelines.

Required profile

• Professional qualification in auditing or accounting (e.g., ACCA, CPA, ICAEW).
• Proven experience auditing donor‑funded projects or similar large‑scale development programmes.
• Strong understanding of UK aid compliance and value‑for‑money assessment.
• Ability to work independently and access project records at any reasonable time.
