Classics Faculty Position – Professor to Assistant Lecturer

About the role

The Department of Languages, Linguistics, and Classical Studies at the University of Malawi invites applications for a full‑time position in Classics. Candidates may be considered for the ranks of Professor, Associate Professor, Senior Lecturer, Lecturer or Assistant Lecturer, teaching Greek and Roman literature and religion.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver high‑quality undergraduate instruction in Classics, both face‑to‑face and online, and supervise research projects.
• Maintain an active research agenda, publish in reputable venues, and seek external funding.
• Participate in departmental committees, outreach programmes, and public lectures to promote Classical Studies.

Required profile

• Master’s or PhD in Classics (or related field) with a strong record of publications for senior ranks; Assistant Lecturers must enrol in a relevant Master’s programme within three years.
• Demonstrated teaching expertise in Greek and Roman literature, religion, and proficiency in Latin and/or Ancient Greek.
• Experience in curriculum development, innovative pedagogy (e.g., digital tools), and engagement with decolonisation initiatives is desirable.
