Child Protection Officer

About the role

The National Child Protection Officer provides technical support for the Ending Child Marriage (ECM) portfolio in Malawi, working under the Child Protection Specialist. The role focuses on mobile response teams, mass birth registration, justice pathways and community norm change.

Key responsibilities

• Support implementation of ECM and Mobile Response Team activities at national and district levels.
• Engage with district authorities, service providers and CSOs, translating technical guidance into practical actions.
• Guide and supervise Mobile Response Teams, reviewing performance and ensuring adherence to SOPs.
• Oversee case management processes, ensuring confidentiality, child safeguarding and survivor‑centred approaches.
• Provide mentorship, capacity building and on‑the‑job coaching for partners.
• Track case management and referral progress, follow up on deliverables and address operational bottlenecks.
• Coordinate monitoring visits, verify data, identify gaps and recommend improvements.
• Prepare and submit reports consolidating field data, achievements and lessons learned.

Required profile

• University degree in international development, social science, human rights or a related field.
• Experience supporting child protection or similar programmes at district level.
• Proven ability to work with government and civil‑society partners.
• Strong analytical and reporting skills.
