Child Protection Officer (Fixed-Term) – Lilongwe, Malawi

About the role

UNICEF is looking for a dynamic Child Protection Officer to join its team in Lilongwe. The role focuses on delivering high‑impact programmes that safeguard children’s rights and well‑being across Malawi, working closely with government, civil society and development partners.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical assistance for the design, implementation, monitoring and reporting of child protection programmes.
• Support the strengthening of legal frameworks, policies and systems that protect children from violence, exploitation, abuse and harmful practices.
• Coordinate with internal and external partners to mobilise resources and ensure programme quality and reach.
• Generate evidence to inform advocacy, address harmful social norms and promote innovative programme delivery.
• Contribute to knowledge management, capacity building and the dissemination of best practices.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Law, International Relations, Social Sciences or a related field.
• Relevant experience in child protection, humanitarian or development contexts.
• Proven ability to work collaboratively with government counterparts, NGOs and development partners.
• Strong analytical and reporting skills with a focus on equity and reaching vulnerable populations.
