Ceramic Technician – 1 Position

About the role

The University of Malawi is hiring a Ceramic Technician to manage the daily operations of its ceramics studio, support teaching activities, and contribute to the department’s commercial projects.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee daily studio operations, maintain cleanliness, and ensure compliance with safety policies.
• Manage firing schedules, inventory of tools, equipment and materials, and supervise production of decorative and utilitarian artworks.
• Prepare clay bodies, formulate glazes, and provide technical assistance for student and lecturer projects.
• Maintain and repair studio equipment in collaboration with the Maintenance Department and participate in income‑generating activities and exhibitions.

Required profile

• Minimum Diploma in Ceramics, Fine Arts, Pottery or a related field.
• At least three years of experience in industrial ceramics production, processes and entrepreneurship.
• Advanced knowledge of potter’s wheel operation, electric kiln use, and raw material processing equipment.
