Assistant Accountant – Reconciliations (2 positions)

About the role

The University of Malawi is hiring two Assistant Accountants focused on bank reconciliations. The successful candidates will join the finance team to ensure accurate reconciliation of bank accounts, support audit processes, and contribute to financial reporting. This position plays a critical role in maintaining the integrity of the university’s financial records.

Key responsibilities

• Reconcile bank accounts and prepare monthly bank reconciliation status reports.
• File bank statements, cancelled cheques, bank funds transfer letters and approved bank reconciliation statements.
• Reverse cancelled and stale cheques in the system.
• Attend to external and internal auditors on matters pertaining to bank reconciliations.
• Draft management responses for inclusion in the management letter.
• Check and post bank reconciliations.
• Submit bank reconciliation statements for income and monitoring expenditure reports.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional qualifications in accounting or related fields.
• Minimum of three years’ relevant work experience in accounting or bank reconciliation.
