Volunteer Accountant for Women & Girls NGO (6‑12 weeks)

About the role

This 6‑12 week volunteer assignment supports a women‑led non‑profit in rural Malawi. You will help strengthen the organisation's financial management by reviewing and improving its accounting processes and tools.

Key responsibilities

• Assess current financial controls, processes and paper‑based/Excel systems.
• Recommend and, if possible, implement a transition to a suitable computerised accounting solution.
• Develop a chart of accounts and train local staff on its use.
• Review programme and organisational budgets, cash‑flow forecasts and management accounting tools.
• Analyse donor funding structures and advise on cost recovery for core administrative expenses.

Required profile

• Qualified accountant or finance professional with experience in non‑profit or development settings.
• Ability to work independently in a low‑resource environment.
• Strong analytical mindset and attention to detail.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
