District Maternal and Newborn Health Officer

About the role

The District Maternal and Newborn Health (MNH) Officer will support the ACHIEVE project by strengthening high‑quality, integrated MNH services at both facility and community levels within a district in Malawi. The role combines technical guidance, capacity building, and data‑driven monitoring to improve emergency obstetric and newborn care.

Key responsibilities

• Support implementation and coordination of district‑level MNH activities.
• Assist interventions aimed at improving emergency obstetric and newborn care and reducing mortality.
• Strengthen frontline health workers through training, mentoring, coaching, and supportive supervision.
• Promote use of quality‑improvement tools to enhance service delivery.
• Identify gaps in service delivery, including commodity and supply management.
• Collaborate with district health teams and stakeholders for coordinated MNH actions.
• Participate in supervision visits and follow‑up actions to improve facility‑based MNH services.
• Contribute to development and adaptation of technical tools, job aids, and training materials.
• Support routine monitoring, data collection, and tracking of project targets.

Required profile

• Experience working on maternal and newborn health programs at district level.
• Familiarity with emergency obstetric and newborn care interventions.
• Ability to train, mentor, and supervise frontline health workers.
• Strong collaboration skills with health teams and partners.
• Capacity to identify service delivery gaps and propose solutions.
