Research Assistant (Temporary)

About the role

The Research Assistant will support data collection for a public‑health study conducted by Partners In Health/Abwenzi Pa Za Umoyo in Neno District, Malawi. Working under the Research Officer and the Principal Investigator, the role is temporary and includes a monthly stipend.

Key responsibilities

• Collect quantitative data using surveys, experiments and data‑scraping techniques.
• Gather qualitative data through in‑depth interviews, key‑informant interviews, focus‑group discussions and observation.
• Implement quality‑control checks to ensure data accuracy and completeness.
• Assist in basic analysis and interpretation of quantitative and qualitative data, including summary statistics, thematic coding and simple statistical tests.
• Prepare clear reports, summaries and visualisations of the collected data.
• Stay updated on data‑collection methodologies and contribute to process improvements.
• Perform any additional duties assigned by the research department.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in statistics, social sciences, public health or a related field.
• Demonstrated experience in quantitative and qualitative data collection and management.
• Experience transcribing qualitative data.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to data integrity.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
