About the role
Irish Rule of Law International (IRLI) is seeking a Programme Lawyer to lead its judiciary component in Malawi. Based in Lilongwe, you will work closely with the Malawi Country Director and local partners to strengthen the justice system and promote human‑rights‑based legal reforms.
Key responsibilities
- Provide legal analysis and advice on judiciary reforms and case law.
- Design and deliver capacity‑building workshops for judges, magistrates and court staff.
- Draft policy briefs, legislative proposals and monitoring reports.
- Collaborate with civil‑society organisations, government agencies and international donors.
- Ensure programme activities align with IRLI’s values of participation, humility, compassion, integrity and justice.
Required profile
- Qualified lawyer with a degree in law (LLB or equivalent).
- Minimum 5 years of experience working in the judiciary or related legal reform projects.
- Demonstrated understanding of rule‑of‑law, human rights and access‑to‑justice issues.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Ability to work independently and in multidisciplinary teams.
