Field Officer – Community Engagement & Census

About the role

GiveDirectly is seeking a Field Officer to support its cash‑transfer programme in the Phalombe district of Malawi. The role involves visiting households, conducting census surveys, enrolling eligible families and ensuring they can safely receive cash transfers via mobile money.

Key responsibilities

• Meet with community leaders and local guides to map community boundaries and understand local sensitivities.
• Systematically visit every household in the assigned area, completing detailed census surveys in line with GiveDirectly’s data protocols.
• Identify and document ineligible households using the organisation’s eligibility criteria.
• Explain the cash‑transfer programme clearly to eligible households, covering how transfers work, recipients’ rights and safety procedures.
• Provide basic guidance on mobile‑money use, PIN protection and troubleshooting support.
• Collect beneficiary stories and feedback for use by GiveDirectly’s communications team.

Required profile

• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build trust with beneficiaries.
• Attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy and integrity.
• Ability to work independently and coordinate with team members for area coverage.
