Engineering Manager

About the role

The Engineering Manager will lead all engineering and maintenance activities for the Protea Hotel by Marriott in Lilongwe. This full‑time, onsite position ensures the safety, security, and optimal performance of the building, grounds, and physical plant while supporting guest satisfaction and operational efficiency.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee the physical plant, including HVAC‑R, refrigeration, plumbing, water‑treatment, electrical, and fire‑safety systems.
• Develop and manage the engineering budget, capital‑expenditure projects, and preventive‑maintenance programs.
• Ensure compliance with local regulations, safety standards, and energy‑conservation best practices.
• Coordinate service contracts, monitor work‑order completion, and maintain parts and equipment inventory.
• Lead ground‑keeping, guest‑room, public‑area, and recreational‑facility maintenance.
• Plan and supervise renovation or new‑construction projects, handling contractor bids and on‑site supervision.
• Conduct regular inspections of facilities, guest rooms, and public spaces to guarantee high standards.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED with at least 3 years of engineering/maintenance experience, **or** a 2‑year degree in Building & Construction, Engineering, Mechanics, or related field with 1 year of experience.
• Technical training in HVAC‑R, electrical, and plumbing systems.
• Strong understanding of regulatory requirements, safety protocols, and asset‑protection strategies.
