Driver/Undertaker (Fixed‑term) – Funeral Services

About the role

This fixed‑term position (6 months) supports funeral operations by transporting the deceased with dignity and assisting during ceremonies. The role reports to the Client Service Consultant and can be based in either Lilongwe or Blantyre, depending on the candidate’s preference.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct funeral services professionally and compassionately, following established protocols.
• Safely transport the deceased from places of death to the funeral parlour and onward to burial sites.
• Handle and move the deceased respectfully at all times.
• Operate funeral, burial and cemetery equipment safely and efficiently.
• Clean, inspect and maintain all equipment, reporting any faults promptly.
• Assist with chapel services and provide support during funeral ceremonies.
• Wash, dress and help prepare the deceased for embalming in line with health and safety standards.
• Maintain accurate vehicle mileage records, complete trip documentation and reconcile fuel transactions.
• Ensure funeral vehicles are clean, roadworthy and presentable.
• Set up and dismantle funeral infrastructure such as tents and chairs.
• Comply with company driving policies, road traffic regulations and safety requirements.
• Participate in standby and night‑duty assignments as scheduled.
• Provide courteous assistance to bereaved families and other stakeholders.
• Perform any other duties assigned by management.

Required profile

• Valid driver’s licence.
• Defensive Driving Certificate.
• Relevant medical certificate.
• Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
• Ability to complete assigned routes on time.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
