Infrastructure Specialist – Technical Advisory & Delivery

About the role

UNOPS is seeking an Infrastructure Specialist to support safe, timely, cost‑effective and compliant delivery of infrastructure projects in Malawi. The role provides technical advisory, design assurance, construction and contract support, as well as quality, risk, HSSE and stakeholder coordination.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical advice to project teams on delivery priorities, schedules, interfaces and risks, and recommend corrective actions.
• Review designs, drawings, specifications and bills of quantities for completeness, constructability, value for money and compliance with Malawi, UNOPS and recognized standards.
• Advise on works supervision, contractor submissions, progress, variations, claims, payments, testing, commissioning, handover and defect management.
• Identify material technical, quality, schedule, contractual and HSSE risks; support site inspections and recommend mitigation or escalation.
• Act as the technical focal point for infrastructure matters, delivering clear input to stakeholders and supporting knowledge sharing, mentoring and capacity building.

Required profile

• Advanced university degree (master’s preferred) in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, Building Engineering or related field; a bachelor’s degree plus two years relevant experience may be accepted.
• Minimum five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in planning, design review, construction supervision or contract management of infrastructure projects.
