About the role
The Engineering Manager will lead all engineering and maintenance activities for the Protea Hotel by Marriott in Lilongwe. You will be responsible for the safe, efficient operation of the building, grounds and physical plant while ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and protecting assets.
Key responsibilities
- Oversee the physical plant including HVAC‑R, refrigeration, plumbing, water‑treatment and electrical systems.
- Develop and manage the engineering budget, capital‑expenditure projects and preventative‑maintenance programmes.
- Ensure regulatory compliance, safety standards and energy‑conservation initiatives.
- Administer service contracts, issue work orders and monitor quality and timeliness of repairs.
- Direct maintenance of guest rooms, public areas, restaurants, vehicles and recreational facilities.
- Plan and supervise renovation or new‑construction projects, including contractor bidding and on‑site supervision.
- Maintain relationships with city building/zoning departments, fire‑prevention bureau and vendors.
- Conduct regular inspections of property, guest rooms and facilities to guarantee high standards.
Required profile
- High school diploma or GED with 3 years of engineering/maintenance experience, or a 2‑year degree in Building & Construction, Engineering or related field with 1 year experience.
- Technical training in HVAC‑R, electrical and plumbing systems.
